What is the BMW Luxury Seating package?

Available on multiple BMW models—including certain versions of the 5-series sedan and the X5 and X6 SUVs—the Luxury Seating package is exactly what it sounds like: an optional upgrade that’s focused entirely on your BMW’s seats.

What’s included

Exact inclusions will depend on the model and trim of your BMW, but you can expect upgrades like:
  • 20-way power multi-contour front seats with articulated upper backrests
  • 4-way lumbar support
  • Adjustable thigh support
  • Active head restraints
  • Ventilated seats that gently blow air through the micro-perforated leather
  • “Active” front seats
Like we said, inclusions vary across models. For example, the X5 and X6 both have a Luxury Seating Package available—but only the X6 gets an “active” front seat for the driver.
And only the BMW 7-Series has an optional Luxury Rear Seating package which includes power adjustable rear comfort seating for two, adjustable headrests, a center console with cup holders, ventilation, and a massage function.

What it does

This one is pretty obvious: BMW’s Luxury Seating package makes your ride even more comfortable to sit in.
This upgrade is especially helpful for those who spend a lot of time in their vehicles, whether you have a rough daily commute, or you’re a frequent road-tripper. The “active” driver’s seats are especially helpful, as they reduce stiffness and fatigue by making continuous, slight adjustments to the seat surface to keep your spine in motion and your back’s muscles engaged.

How much is a BMW Luxury Seating package?

The Luxury Seating package, of course, varies depending on which model you’ll be adding it to. Here’s a rough guide for some of the various vehicles that it’s available for:
  • BMW 5-Series: $1,000
  • BMW X5: $1,600
  • BMW 7-Series: $1,000 (front seats only), $1,600 (front and rear seats)
Keep in mind that if you opt for a higher trim BMW, adding on the Luxury Seating package may cost a little bit more.

Is the BMW Luxury Seating package worth it?

If you spend a lot of time in your BMW, then the Luxury Seating package is absolutely worth the additional cost
Think about it: you’re already spending tens of thousands of dollars on a luxury sedan or SUV. If a BMW is in your budget, then we know you prioritize luxurious comfort over savings. For only about $2,000 more, you get to maximize that comfort and turn your regular old car seats into a throne fit for royalty.
Of course, if you’re interested in purchasing an entry-level BMW at the lowest cost possible, then the Luxury Seating package is absolutely something you can skip. The inside of any BMW is already quite posh, and you certainly won’t find the standard seating to be uncomfortable.

Luxury Seating package vs. Technology package

When it comes to packages, BMW has tons of different ways to add on custom upgrades to your vehicle. Another example is the Technology package, which is available on a wider range of BMW models and includes the following upgrades:
  • Wireless Charging
  • LCD DisplayKey
  • Heads-Up Display
  • Infotainment with Gesture Control
  • Parking Assistant

Luxury seating package vs. Driver Assistance Plus package

A comfortable ride doesn’t depend exclusively on the seats, but also on the vehicle’s various driver assistance technology. To make your driving experience top-notch (and as safe as possible), the Driver Assistance Plus package adds:
  • Active Lane Keeping Assistant
  • Traffic Jam Assistant
  • Blind Spot Detection
  • Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go
  • Frontal Collision Warning with City Collision Mitigation

The bottom line

Climb into the driver’s seat of a BMW and you’re already sitting in the lap of luxury, but if you want to upgrade your experience and make it the absolute best it can be, then the Luxury Seating package is absolutely worth the extra cash.
However, if budget is a massive concern for you, feel confident knowing that you can skip out on this package without sacrificing the overall feel of your new BMW.
