background
The
Ford Edge
does not offer a third row of seats, but the interior of the car is spacious and comfortable for a small family or group of adults. The
Ford Explorer
will run you a similar price and offer a third row of seats, making it a great alternative for families or those needing to haul around extra passengers.
Finding a good SUV to drive around a large family might not be as easy as you thought—but

Does the Ford Edge have a 3rd row?

Sadly, unlike many other midsize SUVs, the Ford Edge does not have a third row. You’ll be limited to a 5-passenger capacity for this SUV—but the lack of a third row allows the interior to be quite roomy. And even with an optional turbocharged V-6 engine and a small array of features, the Ford Edge is overall not as impressive as rivals.
Here are some of the Ford Edge’s key specs:
  • Starting MSRP: $38,905
  • Passenger capacity: 5
  • Maximum towing capacity: 1500 pounds
  • Fuel economy (combined/city/highway): 23 / 21 / 28
  • Drivetrain: All-wheel drive
  • Maximum horsepower @ RPM: 250 @ 5500
  • Maximum torque @ RPM: 275 @ 3000

Ford Explorer
as a top alternative to the Edge. The Explorer offers nearly the exact same amount of total passenger volume—and carries a similar MSRP. But you’ll get a third row of seats and keep hold of the Ford name.

Is the Ford Edge good for big families and long trips?

For families with two kids, the Ford Edge is a decent pick. You might need to find some extra space for storage for long trips (like a cargo basket or roof rack on the top of your car), but passengers will be comfortable with the space available.
But if you plan to cram three passengers into the second row, know that it might not feel great for hours on end. We recommend maxing out the seating capacity for shorter trips and drives where you won’t have luggage taking up precious cargo space.

How to find affordable car insurance for your Ford

If you thought picking a car was hard, have you tried shopping for car insurance?
Here’s what it typically looks like: You hop on your computer to search for providers. You find one that looks good—but they don’t show you how much you’ll pay. You fill out a form with your email, phone, and other personal information—and then you have to wait to see your quote. When you finally get your emailed quote, you repeat the process ten times to compare your options—but when you’re inundated with calls and ripping your hair out, you give up and choose a random provider.
Sounds glamorous, right?
The process leaves you overpaying for a car insurance policy—and that’s where
Jerry

The best part? No annoying phone calls, no paperwork getting set up with a new provider (we’ll do that for you), and an average yearly savings of over $800.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
