How to replace Mini Cooper windshield wipers

Generally, your Mini Cooper windshield wipers need to be replaced every 12 months as part of your
basic car maintenance schedule
.
Cars that do a lot of driving in the rain and/or snow (think
Chicago
or
New York
) will likely need the wiper blades replaced sooner. In contrast, Mini Coopers that spend most of their time in dry and sunny areas such as
Los Angeles
or
Phoenix
can often go longer before their windshield wipers need to be swapped out.
As soon as your Mini Cooper wiper blades start making your windshield visibility worse, it’s time to get them replaced. This is one of the easiest and fastest car maintenance tasks—perfect for both beginners and pros.
Ready to get started? Follow the steps below to replace the windshield wipers on your Mini Cooper.

How to put Mini Cooper windshield wipers in the service position

Mini Cooper wiper blades are normally tucked under the edge of the hood, making them difficult to access. You’ll need to put your wiper blades in the service position, or on the upwards stroke, to easily access them for the replacement.
All you need to do is turn on the car’s ignition and briefly run the windshield wipers. As the blades are moving across the windshield, quickly turn the ignition off to stop them in the service position.
You can now pull the wiper arm up and out from the windshield to access and replace the blades.

How to replace Mini Cooper wiper blades

Once your car is in the service position, it’s showtime—replace your Mini Cooper wiper blades by following these easy steps:
  • Turn the wiper blade perpendicular to the wiper arm to access the release tab
  • Press on the release tab to slide out the old wiper blade
  • Slide the new wiper blade into place, making sure that it’s tightly fitted into the groove
  • Fold the wiper blade back down and test the new wiper blade by turning the ignition on and setting the wiper switch to MIST
Repeat the steps on the opposite side and then you’re done!
If you go through these steps and are still having issues, then you’ll need to visit an auto mechanic to see if there is an issue with your Mini Cooper’s wiper arm. Unfortunately, this is not an at-home repair because the arm is linked to the vehicle’s electrical system.
