Can I get gap insurance if I already bought a car?

I bought a new car a couple of months ago, and I didn’t consider buying gap insurance at the time. After researching, I want to purchase it—can I still get it?

gap insurance
when you purchased your car, it’s not too late—you can buy gap insurance at any point, as long as you meet the insurer's requirements. Most insurers allow drivers to add gap insurance to their policy if the car is under three years old and under a specific mileage.
Gap insurance usually only applies to newer vehicles because the first two or three years are when you likely owe more than what insurance will pay for a total loss or theft of your car. 
Most buyers tend to decline gap insurance, but if you’re in any of the following scenarios, it might be right for you:
  • You had a small down payment
  • You have an extended loan or lease term
  • You purchased a vehicle that depreciates quickly
