Can I paint a car with house paint?

My car is due for a paint touch-up. I don’t want to have a professional do it, and I have some extra paint lying around. But do you know what happens if I paint a car with house paint?

It’s great you want to save money and complete the job yourself, but a car painted with house paint is a recipe for disaster.
House paint isn’t formulated to bond with metal, or automotive lacquer. This means if a car is painted with house paint, it will show signs of peeling and fade after a short time.
Not sure what type of
paint
to buy for your car? No sweat. Below are car appropriate paints to get you on your way:
  • Urethane car paint. This paint is inexpensive, durable, and dries fast.
  • Metallic car paint. Great for those drivers who appreciate aesthetics. This will leave your car looking shiny and reflective.
  • Acrylic enamel car paint. Easy to apply and leaves you with a glossy finish.
Whatever kind of car paint you choose, make sure to protect your investment further with the right
car insurance
.
