Can I renew my driver's license online in Texas?

I’ve got to renew my driver’s license pretty soon, but I live in Dallas, and the lines at the DMV are always super long. Can I renew it online instead?

You can renew your driver’s license
online
in
Texas
up to two years before or after the expiration date as long as you meet the following requirements:
  • You’re a U.S. citizen
  • Your Social Security number is already on file
  • You last renewed your Texas license in person
  • You don’t have a hazardous materials endorsement
  • You’re at least 30 days out from turning 18 and your license is a provisional license
  • You’re younger than 79 years old
  • Your vision, mental, and physical conditions have not changed your ability to drive safely since your last renewal
  • You have a commercial license and you have a valid medical certificate that isn’t expired
  • Your license is not
    suspended
    or revoked
For the renewal process, you’ll need the last four digits of your Social Security number and the audit number from your current license card. You’ll also need a printer for your temporary license and a valid credit card to pay the $33 fee.
If you aren’t eligible to renew your
Texas driver’s license
online, there are three other options:
  • Over the phone
  • In-person at a Department of Public Safety office
  • By mail
To find out which method is right for you, visit the
Texas Department of Public Safety website
