Can you cancel a total loss claim?

I was recently in a car accident and I filed a claim. My car is a rare collector’s item, and I don’t feel like the payout they were going to give me was adequate. Can I cancel the total loss claim and try to repair my car instead?

Your
car insurance
typically allows you to cancel a total loss claim within a specified time frame — typically just before the total loss claim is paid out. However, the total loss claim doesn’t erase the claim from your record, so your car insurance rates are likely to increase.
You may also have to negotiate a payout with the insurance company that also allows you to keep your car. Contact your insurer directly to find a solution to this issue.
If your rates go up as a result of your claim, use the

app to compare quotes from reputable insurers and get the best rate possible for your car insurance needs — even if it’s for a rare or collectible car.
