To be an insurance agent in
Florida
, you must be a U.S. citizen (or legal alien), a resident of Florida, and at least 18 years old.
If you meet these requirements, you’re ready to take an approved insurance course. This course has to be at least 60 hours.
Once you complete the course, you’ll need to:
  • Apply for your license
  • Send proof to the state of your course completion
  • Get fingerprinted
  • Register to take your exam
If you pass, the state will send you an approval notice.
Keep in mind: While you can complete these steps on your own, many
car insurance companies
will help get you licensed. Since you’re considering switching into the field, you should look at job opportunities in your area.
You should see in the job listing that they will pay for you to get licensed. If you choose to get licensed by yourself, you can begin applying for jobs once you are officially licensed.
