How do I remove dents from a car door panel?

My kids were playing basketball in the driveway last night and managed to put not one, but two basketball-sized dents in the rear passenger side door. They were apologetic (and learned why I put my car in the street when they play) but I was wondering if I could remove these dents from the door panel myself?

It sounds like your kids had a great time, even if your car didn’t! Don’t worry, though; dents are something you can usually take care of on your own.
There are a few simple ways to remove
dents from your car
yourself:
  • You can try using a plunger. Just grab a standard cup plunger, wet both the plunger and the door, and push and pull the plunger till the dent pops out.
  • If the plunger method does not work, try using a hair dryer and a can of compressed air. Use the hair dryer to heat the dent as much as possible and then tilt the can of compressed air upside down and apply it to the dent. The quick change in temperature should force the dent out.
  • If neither of the above methods works, you can purchase a specialty tool to pull out the dent. These tools are sold at most auto shops and are often less expensive than having them removed professionally.
If you’ve tried all the above methods to no avail, it may be time to call a professional. Your
car insurance
is unlikely to cover any of the cost given the damage was not from an accident, so you should shop around to make sure you are getting the best deal with a mechanic.
Just like when shopping for the best repair price, you should also shop around for your car insurance policy to make sure you are getting the best deal.
