How do you change the fuel injectors in a Ford Ranger?

My car is burning gas way too quickly. I talked with my buddy and she said it was probably a problem with my fuel injectors. What’s the best way to change the fuel injectors in my Ford Ranger?

Changing the fuel injectors is a big job, but it’s definitely manageable if you’re willing to put in the time. If you feel comfortable doing it yourself, start by using these steps to relieve the fuel line pressure:
  • First, remove the negative cable from your battery.
  • Take off the fuel filler can and connect a fuel pressure gauge to the test port in your supply manifold line.
  • Use the gauge to release the pressure from your fuel line. If you don’t have your own gauge, you can rent one from an auto shop.
Once you’ve relieved the pressure, you can follow these steps to change the fuel injectors in your Ford Ranger:
  • Remove the upper intake manifold to access the fuel injectors.
  • Once you locate the fuel injectors, carefully unplug the wires from the point where they meet the injectors and disconnect the hose from the supply manifold.
  • From there, lift the fuel injection supply manifold out of the engine—take extra care to keep everything connected.
  • Once the manifold assembly is outside your engine, unscrew the old injectors and replace them with new ones. Remember to use new O-rings to prevent leaks.
  • After you’ve replaced the injectors, put the assembly back in your engine and reconnect the injectors to the wires.
  • Return the upper intake manifold to its original position.
Hopefully, these steps can help you change your fuel injectors! If you aren’t comfortable doing it yourself, try not to worry! The total cost of a professional fuel injector change is only about $200, so visiting a
mechanic
may be a better option.
