How do you fix car body damage?

I got in a little accident and now my car’s all banged up. I’d prefer to fix it myself if possible, so I’m wondering how to fix dents and small scratches. What’s the best way to fix car body damages like dents?

Car body damage like dents and scratches are aesthetically irritating. Luckily, they’re easy to fix for even a novice DIYer. Here are some of the best ways to repair dents and scratches from home.
To remove dents:
  • Pour hot water over the dented area to soften the metal.
  • Immediately stick a plunger over the dent and pull straight back.
  • Carefully unstick the plunger from the car’s side.
  • Your dent should be gone.
While the plunger method is fairly reliable, it may take a few tries. Don’t worry if you can’t get it the first time.
Alternatively, you can purchase a dent puller from an auto parts store for about $10 to $20 for smaller or harder-to-reach dents.
For small scratches:
  • Apply a small amount of rubbing compound to a scrubbing pad.
  • Work the compound into the scratch and the surrounding area.
  • Wipe away compound residue with a microfiber towel.
  • Repeat the process until the scratch disappears.
Congratulations—your car should look good as new! If you still see damage that you don’t feel comfortable repairing yourself, contact your provider and ask about the claims process. Remember,
filing claims
will raise your insurance premium, so only file one if you feel the cost of repairs would justify the increased rate.
