How do you fix rattling windows in a car?

I’ve owned my car for over ten years. The windows just recently started rattling while I drive. Is there a way to fix the rattling windows? They’re starting to drive me crazy.

Rattling windows can undoubtedly get annoying very quickly! The good news is that you might be able to fix rattling windows in a car at home with only a few supplies.
To fix the rattling windows, you will need:
  • Screwdriver or utility blade
  • Adhesive cleaner
  • Replacement weatherstrips
  • Silicone lubricant
Once you have your supplies, you should:
  1. Examine the window gaskets for any wear and tear or damage. With a car that’s at least ten years old, it’s not uncommon for these seals to wear out and cause some rattling.
  2. Remove the old seal using a screwdriver or utility blade.
  3. Clean away the old adhesive and dry the area well.
  4. Apply a new adhesive and install the new weatherstrip.
  5. Apply a thin layer of silicone lubricant to the seal once dry.
If the window rattle persists after replacing the weatherstrips, you should visit a mechanic. In this situation, a loose window mechanism within the door is likely causing the issue, which a professional can fix.
