Opening the gas tank on a Ford Taurus is simple, but the process does vary slightly depending on the vehicle’s model year.
If you own an older model Ford Taurus (1986-2009), you can open the gas tank by turning the engine off, pulling the fuel filler door open using the small upraised tab on the back edge, and unscrewing the gas cap, which turns counterclockwise.
If you own a newer model Ford Taurus (2010-2019), you can open the gas tank by switching the engine off and pressing in on the rear center edge of the fuel filler door. When you apply pressure, the filler door will automatically spring unlatch. Then you can pull it open the rest of the way.
Newer models do not use a gas cap to seal the gas tank, but a fuel valve—this means you can simply insert the fuel nozzle into the fuel pipe and start pumping gas.
Once you have finished refueling your Ford Taurus, screw the gas cap back into place (if you have one) and shut the fuel filler door firmly to ensure that it latches properly.
