My neighbor lent me their car to use while they’re away for the week, but I can’t figure out how to open the fuel tank to get gas. How do you open the gas tank on the Toyota Prius?

Knowing how to open a fuel tank in an unfamiliar vehicle can be challenging, particularly when unsure if you need to pull a lever, press a button, or simply open the door. To open the gas tank door on a
Toyota Prius
, follow the steps below:
  • On the driver’s side floorboard, locate a lever marked with a gas tank graphic (Hint: it’s near the door jamb!)
  • Pull up on the lever to release the gas tank panel latch
  • Exit the vehicle and open the gas tank panel
  • Remove the gas cap and get fueling!
Fortunately, the Prius is an impressively fuel efficient vehicle, so you shouldn’t have to break the bank over fuel costs. With a 58 MPG City/53 MPG Highway fuel economy on the 2022 model, you may be convinced by the end of the week to get your hands on your very own Prius!
