How do you safely climb into a pickup truck?

I recently had knee surgery and now I’m having trouble getting in and out of my truck. What’s the safest way to climb into a pickup truck?

I’m sorry to hear that you needed surgery and such a complicated one at that! However, it’s good to hear that you’re taking care of yourself and trying to let your body mend.
Don’t worry—you won’t need to sell your pickup for something easier to get in and out of. In fact, it can be just as simple to get into a pickup as a
sedan
by following a few simple steps:
  • Get a firm handhold (preferably two). You can use the assist grips found on the roof of your car above the door, your steering wheel, or even the driver’s seat itself.
  • Get solid footing. Many trucks come with side bars to help passengers lift themselves into the truck cab. If you don’t have side bars, you can also use the floor of the cab or a small stool to help you.
  • Maintain three points of contact. Though this is more of a rule for rock climbing, it works just the same for accessing the cab of a truck. Never take more than one hand or foot at a time off of the ground or vehicle.
Most importantly, take your time. Rushing makes even the simplest tasks more dangerous, so slow down when entering or exiting your truck. And while you’re recovering, take the time to check out alternative
