How many fewer parts in an electric car?

I know EVs have “less internal components” but in comparison to a traditional vehicle, how many moving parts does an EV have?

This is a question we definitely get quite a bit! There are only 20 moving parts in an electric vehicle versus the 2,000+ components in a traditional car. That’s a huge difference!
In an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle there are a lot more features and functions to contend with as everything is powered by the gas engine. Natural gas by itself is useless, so it has a combustion system, and then converters to convert the different types of energy into mechanical energy, or motion.
With over 2,000 pieces that fit together, it’s no wonder why these cars have to visit the mechanics more often and are more subject to wear and tear. EVs have to visit the mechanic if something goes, wrong, but with fewer things that fit together, the issues may be easier to see.
The plus side to many parts, is that the components of ICE vehicles like pistons, crankshafts, and catalytic converters are more common and therefore cheaper to buy and replace. EV parts are harder to come by, hence more expensive.
