What is the best year for a used Ford Taurus?

A friend of mine mentioned wanting to sell his old Ford Taurus. I’ve been thinking of trading in my vehicle, but I’m not sure if I want to take him up on his offer or find a replacement vehicle that isn’t as old as his. What is the best year for a used Ford Taurus?

Since the
Ford Taurus
was discontinued in 2019, drivers looking for Ford’s fan-favorite mid-size car have had to turn to used models. If you’re in the same boat, you can’t go wrong with a Taurus made in 2017, 2018, or 2019.
Generally speaking, the 2010s was a decent decade for the Taurus. Models released between 2012 and 2019 fared well with car critics like Edmunds and U.S. News, earning good reviews for their safety and ride comfort. We’ve singled out the last year years for the Taurus specifically for a few reasons:
  • Features. Later versions of the Taurus included robust features, including tons of safety tech. In a world where technology changes by the year, it’s great to get a vehicle that can meet modern expectations.
  • Quality. The materials that make up these Taurus models are well-made (if not expensive), making these models built to last from the inside out.
  • Safety. In its final years of production, the Ford Taurus consistently received full, 5-star safety ratings from the NHTSA for its excellent results in crash testing.
That being said, you should avoid Ford Taurus models released in the early and mid-2000s—and 2002-2005, these model years are widely considered among the worst.
