Picking out the right fuel at the pump can be unexpectedly confusing—there are more options than you might think! To find out what kind of gas your vehicle takes, you can take a look at your owner’s manual. The kind of gas a 2022
Subaru Outback
takes is unleaded gasoline, which will need to have an octane rating of 87 or higher.In high-altitude areas, you might see unleaded gasoline for sale with an octane rating below this, but it’s not recommended for a Subaru Outback. Reformulated fuels, which are designed to burn more cleanly, are generally compatible with a Subaru Outback, but MMT additives are not.
You’ll also want to avoid fuel containing more than 15% ethanol, which means refraining from E30 or E85 at the pump.
Using the wrong fuel, or fuel with an additive that’s not compatible with your vehicle, could cause serious damage to your engine or fuel system.
