Why won’t my Chrysler Pacifica’s sliding door open?

I’ve owned my Chrysler Pacifica for several years without issue, but recently the passenger-side sliding door stopped working and will no longer open—why won’t my Chrysler Pacifica’s sliding door open?

There are several reasons why your
Chrysler Pacifica’s
sliding door might not be working—some of the most common include: a damaged door lock mechanism, out-of-date software, and a frayed or broken cable.
  • Damaged door lock mechanism: several parts make up your sliding door’s locking mechanism and if one of these components breaks or slips out of place, it can make opening the door impossible.
  • Out-of-date software: if your Chrysler’s software is out-of-date, it can cause certain systems (e.g. power sliding door modules, PCM, TCM, etc.) to malfunction—if this is the case, you’ll need to go to a dealership for an update.
  • Frayed/broken cable: several cables inside the sliding door help control the locking/unlocking movement—if one of these cables breaks, it can become caught in the door’s pulley or tubing, preventing it from opening.
If you aren’t particularly savvy when it comes to automobile repair, we’d suggest bringing your Pacifica to a Chrysler dealership to have one of their mechanics diagnose and address the issue for you. You can also call ChryslerCares at 1-800-247-9753 to speak with a Chrysler representative directly.
Before doing so, however, there’s one thing you may want to check: on the inside of the sliding door, just below the handle, there is a manual lock that, when flipped, prevents both the handle and button from opening the door. This lock switches between black and red—if it is red, something/someone must have flipped it, so flipping it back to black may solve the issue.
If this manual lock has not been flipped, you are most likely dealing with one of the aforementioned problems.
