Where is the Mazda CX-9 built?

So I recently took a job with a major carmaker as its new head of innovation, and we’re in the early stages of revamping our sad SUV line. I’m going on a fact-finding mission to Japan, where I might (coincidentally) find myself at a few assembly plants. I hope to learn new processes and possibly stumble upon some useful documents (blueprints) in order to really figure out what makes a great SUV. Where is the Mazda CX-9 built?

The Mazda CX-9 is built at the Ujina 1 assembly plant in Hiroshima, Japan. Today’s CX-9 is the second generation of this SUV, which was introduced in 2015 and is based on Mazda’s SkyActiv platform and engine specifications.
The current iteration of the CX-9 built at Ujina 1 sports a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder SkyActiv engine with 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, which is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Interestingly enough, the CX-9 is built for export only. It is not sold in Japan because it exceeds Japanese dimension and engine displacement regulations. Mazda sells a CX-8 model domestically that adheres to those regulations.
Along with the CX 9, the
Mazda 3
, Mazda 6,
Mazda CX-5
, and
MX-5 Miata
are also built at the Ujina 1 plant.
